As a leading German company in recycling, water management, and municipal and industrial services, Remondis SE & Co. KG shapes the recycling industry like few others. Investing in and engaging with innovative technology is part of daily business for the Remondis Group. At the Remondis site in Melsdorf, Schleswig-Holstein, the mobile-modular processing concept MMPC, is already successfully used as a pre-treatment plant for commercial waste. In an interview, operations manager Jenny Nagel explains the tasks the facility performs and the requirements Remondis places on the technology.
Hello, Ms. Nagel, could you please start by giving us an overview of the sectors and material streams in which the Melsdorf site operates?
Certainly. We primarily serve municipal and commercial customers, for whom we process a variety of material streams. These include organic waste, paper, commercial waste, and packaging. The largest quantities are 30,000 tons of paper and 22,000 tons of commercial waste per year.
How did the collaboration with Doppstadt come about?
Remondis already works with Doppstadt at various locations across Germany. We in Melsdorf had no previous contact with Doppstadt systems due to a lack of application areas. A long-standing business partner of Remondis had good experiences and therefore brought Doppstadt to our attention in connection with our desire for a sorting facility.
The trend in recent years has clearly shown that we need to handle more and more material. Until now, we have always relied on the facilities of other companies, which we want to move away from. We quickly decided to work with Doppstadt because the MMPC was a quickly available solution that met our requirements.
Why did you opt for MMPC?
The key points are flexibility and cost-effectiveness. Compared to a stationary plant, the acquisition costs are much lower. In the long term, flexibility is an enormous advantage. If the business changes, we can easily adapt the MMPC to new requirements. At our Melsdorf site, we see the MMPC as a pilot project for the entire Remondis Group.
What specific tasks does the MMPC perform?
The MMPC is intended to process 30,000 tons of commercial waste from the region. That equates to 100 tons per day and 15 tons per hour. Our goal is to handle our own commercial waste quantities with our own facility in accordance with the current and future commercial waste regulations.
What characterizes your collaboration with Doppstadt?
Especially the excellent service and straightforward contact. Support staff are always available to answer questions, and they come to our site to assist when needed. This goes far beyond the service we are used to from other companies.
